Research notes
Answer to 'is it a coding agent itself': both. OpenHands remains an agent, but the repo README now leads with Agent Canvas, and the ACP doc says the Agent Server spawns the agent's own CLI as a subprocess. Subscription login reuse works where the CLI is signed in on the backend machine; clean cloud sandboxes need an API key. OpenHands Cloud runs only Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI; Pi and OpenCode are local-only. Agent choice is stored per backend, so mixing vendors means switching backends. Parallelism is per conversation (optional Docker container each), not worktree based. The site headline still reads 'open platform for agentic software development'.
