A persistent terminal runtime with a desktop app and a TUI that keeps coding agents running in the background, tracks their status, and lets them start and steer each other.

GOOD FIT FOR

A persistent terminal runtime where agents can start and steer each other.

Core features

  • Sandboxed runsNo

The herdr-core security doc says "Core runs commands with your account's access. It is not a sandbox or a permission broker for agents.". It can connect to a sandbox you create yourself, such as Vercel Sandbox, but does not set one up.

    Source
  • Diff review Yes

The quote is from the desktop app's code, describing the built-in Changes panel. Herdr TUI has no diff view.

    Source
  • Agent coordination YesSource
  • Scheduled tasksNo

README, docs, changelogs, CLI command lists and default mods of herdr, herdr-app and herdr-core searched for cron, schedule and recurring. No scheduled agent runs found.

  • Event triggersNo

READMEs, docs and code of the three repos searched for webhook, issue, pull request, Slack and Telegram triggers. Nothing found. Events and plugins react only to Herdr's own local activity, and the Telegram example only sends notifications out.

  • Team collaborationNo

READMEs, docs and changelogs of the three repos searched for team, invite, members, multi-user and shared sessions. Nothing found. Machines and clients connect for one user only.

  • API / CLI control YesSource

Pricing

Free and open source; no paid tier found. README lists an enterprise and partnership contact only.

Platforms

Desktop app: macOS (Apple Silicon), Linux (x86_64, arm64), Windows (x86_64). Herdr TUI and the hc CLI also run on macOS, Linux and Windows.

Research notes

The product has split: herdrdev/herdr is now Herdr TUI (docs moved to herdr.dev/tui), while herdr.dev leads with a separate new desktop app (herdrdev/herdr-app) built on herdr-core (herdrdev/herdr-core, the hc CLI). The site says the app and TUI do not share agents. All three repos are Apache-2.0. The github field keeps herdrdev/herdr as requested, but the lead may want to point at herdr-app. Herdr starts whatever you run; agents with OSC 7501 support also report state. Default branch is master. No mobile app; the core page only mentions that the API is open to one. BYOK evidence is a code test showing ANTHROPIC_API_KEY stays in the pane environment; user docs do not cover keys. Own subscription: Herdr's own docs never mention plans or logins, but it runs the real CLI in a real terminal, so agents use the login they already have. The quote is from DigitalOcean's listing for its Herdr image, a third-party source, whose sign-in table gives `claude` for Claude Code and `codex login` for Codex. Issue 5378 also has a user running several subscriptions of one agent under Herdr. Checked 2026-11-06.
